This course is instructed in a two-hour block. During the first semester the student learns basic skills needed to compete in the job market. Units include work in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software, machine transcription, calculating machines, filing, handling business appointments, correct telephone usage, financial management, personality development, dressing for success, career development, and job interviews. Computer software used will be Microsoft Office 2003. This course is designed for students wanting a job while going to college, Tech Prep sequence, or for those that want to start at the entry level in a business as a career. During the second semester, the student will work for a Kingman business during the two-hour block (6th and 7th hours). Students are paid a minimum wage and work a minimum of 90 hours each 9-weeks. Students must pass the 1st Semester with a grade of C or better in order to qualify for paid work.
